In a move that’s surprising only in that it’s taken so long, say hello to the first official Game of Thrones high jewellery collection. Created by Faberge in partnership with Michele Clapton, the show’s costume designer, it is being unveiled over the next two years in a series of “chapters”, the first of which, Chapter One: Dragon, was recently unveiled at an event in Dubai. It consists of five pieces, each in a limited edition of 10, that reflect the distinctive aesthetic of one of the series’ most memorable characters, Daenerys Targaryen.

Think of Switzerland and two things that likely come to mind are impeccable watches and skiing in the Alps. Combining the two was always going to result in some kind of luxury alchemy – and so watchmaker IWC Schaffhausen and ski brand The Faction Collective have proved in launching Faction Studio 1 IWC Collab to turn out limited edition skis and a matching watch.

With just 55 pairs planned, in sizes of 171cm x 25cm and 178cm x 30cm, the freestyle skis are the first that Faction – brand of choice for double Olympic gold medallist Eileen Gu, no less – has made with any kind of luminescent design. Finished with white-on-white lettering that glows green in the dark, they read “IWC Lake Tahoe”.

Buying the skis unlocks an option to purchase the watchmaker’s Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Top Gun Edition in a special white ceramic “Lake Tahoe” version.

After the annual festival of excess that is Christmas and New Year, here’s a timely reminder that tasty beverages can also be worth keeping hold of as an investment. Especially Burgundy, according to the 2022 edition of the Liv-ex Power 100, an annual ranking of fine wine power players from wine marketplace Liv-ex, judging by their secondary market performance.

Burgundian producers dominate the upper reaches of the list, with Domaine Leroy ranked top for the third consecutive year. Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux saw the largest annual price rises, averaging a barely believable 487 per cent. The region’s Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, meanwhile, remains the most expensive producer, fetching an average of about US$94,000 (HK$733,000) per case. Champagne also did rather nicely, with three wines in the top 10, including Louis Roederer Cristal, the top-traded wine by volume. There was ominous news for the traditional powerhouse of Bordeaux, however, which had no entries in the top 10 for the first time ever.

What better way for Parmigiani Fleurier to continue celebrations for its 25th anniversary (in 2021) than with the creation of what may be its most ambitious watch yet? Not only did the Swiss watchmaker set its sights on high-level movement, but also committed to traditional grand feu enamel – in a pocket watch. The result is Les Roses Carrees – Collection Grand Feu, based on a restored Louis-Elisee Piguet calibre with grande sonnerie.

Why celebrities are investing in online luxury watch reseller Bezel

The series of pocket watches comprises five exclusive minute-repeater pieces, with the collection’s first, the singular Rosa Celeste, an homage to the artisanal grand feu tradition with an enamel finish. Boasting the hallmarks of La Rose Carree, the Rosa Celeste is just a little bit more wearable, just a little bit simpler, but nonetheless emblematic of handmade watchmaking and the intangible value of craftsmanship.
